Everything you need to know on how to watch today's Giants versus Lions NFL preseason game- team news, livestream, TV channel, and start time.
The Detroit Lions start the preseason on the road against the New York Giants at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.
EAST RUTHERFORD - Brian Daboll called thousands of plays as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, plus one season on the road to a national championship at Alabama.
He's never called plays as a head coach - until now.
Daboll has spent the summer calling plays for the Giants' offense and Thursday night marks the first game during which he will do so in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions at MetLife Stadium.
So in addition to his head coaching responsibilities that include roster construction, practice, game planning, meetings with various departments and his own staff, and then, of course, game management.
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka called the plays in Daboll's first two seasons as coach with the Giants.

In Daboll's final season as play caller in Buffalo - the campaign that cemented his candidacy as a head coach - the Bills finished third in the NFL with 28.4 points a game and fifth with 381.9 yards a game. Quarterback Josh Allen was sixth in the league with a franchise-record 409 completions, seventh with 36 touchdown passes and eighth with 4,407 yards. Allen's top target, wide receiver Stefon Diggs, caught 103 passes for 1,225 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Daboll was voted the AP's NFL Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020. He was the NFL's Coach of the Year two seasons later with the Giants, leading them to nine wins and a postseason victory in his first year.
"That's part of the process, going through all those things and seeing it. It'll be good to do," Daboll said. "That's what these preseason games are for: go through that process. I think every team we play this year that has an offensive head coach besides one, they call the plays. I've talked to plenty of people. I just want to go through the process of the preseason, the mechanics of it, the communication with my staff, really in all three phases, plus the people that help me with game management. So that's much needed."
Daboll will likely be calling the shots for an offense led by quarterbacks Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito with Daniel Jones - and most if not all the Giants' starters on both sides of the ball - not expected to play.
